Quality Control Management

Excellence of design and attention to detail characterize L2e’s projects and attest to the quality of work produced by our office. Our projects reflect our conviction that quality work must be judged not only by appearance but also by its usefulness, safety, accessibility, maintenance cost and value. Our extensive and long-standing background in public and HUD-assisted housing work has provided the breadth of experience and depth of knowledge to anticipate many of the problematic issues in public housing renovation and provide creative solutions which prevent or eliminate many of the headaches that can be encountered in modernization projects.

High‑quality design within budget, excellent  service, and reliability from the architectural/ engineering team were explicit priorities for the Housing Authority of Joliet project. In order to ensure that these expectations were met, the project team implemented a quality assurance program designed to facilitate the development of the project. The intent of this program was to  provide the project team with a process of office systems checks and balances and progress reviews that would assure quality design and documents.

Review groups established for the project from our key in-house personnel.  The review group for drawings and specifications reviewed the documents for the following:

  • Owner’s expectations
  • Code compliance (including proper identification of requirements and proper indication, such as rated walls and doors, locations of fire dampers, etc.)
  • Coordination (between disciplines and documents, proper and correct referencing)
  • Professional and construction industry standards and expectations (completeness, adequate detailing, adequate dimensioning, clarity of notes and text, reasonable tolerances, and similar considerations, including conformance to professional standards)
  • Technical competence (overall presentation, technical quality of details, commercially buildable)
  • Legibility/readability (ease of finding information, understandable to tradespeople)
  • Design follow‑through (design objectives achieved)

In addition to the document review process, the quality assurance program for the project addressed the specific project procedures for communication and contractual requirements that were needed to coordinate the work with the entire project team. Examples of items involved in this area of the program are; coordination of drafting standards between firms, establishment and maintenance of project schedules and budgets, incorporating time for client review and approvals, reviews and coordination, and staffing assignments to best meet project needs.

Project quality encompasses many areas of the  delivery process. No substitute can be made for quality staff and  management for all areas of the project. Our commitment is to provide quality services and creative solutions for improvements that will serve for years to come.
